The 2008 year of AMS ended with an "Oscar" celebration to mark the retirement of two of their management team. The dining room of the Blue Peter hotel with its panoramic view of Table Bay, the City of Cape Town and Table Mountain had been decorated artistically for the occasion with an arched entrance, red carpet, life size posters of the two stars and special table settings. "Bones" (Herman Boonzaier) started his career at Woods Fans in Port Elizabeth in 1972 and later relocated to Luft Fans in Cape Town.

In 1995 "Bones" joined the newly formed AMS (Air Movement Supplies) a majority owned subsidiary of the Elta Fan Group in the UK. By moving to AMS, "Bones" continued his close association with Ray Ball, an international icon in the fan industry. The relationship between Bones and Ray Ball now spans 25 years. "On reaching the age of 60 years I decided it was time for semi-retirement to allow for newcomers to the industry. During my many years in the fan industry I have developed close relationships with clients and colleagues and I am glad that I will continue by providing a support service to clients and the AMS sales team. One aspect which I will not miss is having to travel by car to the office each day".

In 1971 Dave Mathers re-located to South Africa from the UK where he was active in the steel construction business. After spending time in the sheet metal industry Dave joined Luft Industries in 1985 and this marked his entry into the fan business and his association with Ray Ball.
Jacky and Ray Ball, chairman of Elta Fan Group

After working in the fan industry in South Africa for 25 years, Dave started his own fan manufacturing business, Dave Mathers (Pty) Ltd. and AMS became one of his major clients.

In 1996 Dave sold the business to the Elta Group and he was appointed managing director of Elta Fans SA, the manufacturing division of Elta Group Africa (Pty) Ltd. On reaching the age of 65 years Dave has decided to take full retirement and "just enjoy relaxing and going about everyday life at a much reduced pace."

The grandeur of the AMS Oscars truly did justice to the many years of service of Bones Boonzaier and Dave Mathers in the fan industry and their popularity amongst colleagues, friends and clients.
