Features

The Whirlybird reduces summer temperatures inside the building by helping ceiling insulation to work more effectively.
Because it is powered by the wind, it is very cost effective and therefore saves energy in summer. In winter it reduces condensation in roof spaces.
The Whirlybird helps extract fumes and also protects paint and insulation.
Construction
The Whirlybird is a stainless steel construction turning on ball bearings with a turbine ventilator. With the base included it can adjusted to 450 pitch. The 21 aerofoil blades are shaped to prevent rain and dust from penetrating the unit. It is tested to withstand hurricane-force winds and temperatures up to 80 0C.
The Whirlybird is resistant to rust and corrosion and the bearings are lubricated with heat-resistant grease and permanently sealed.
Testing
The CSIR has tested the the air-removing capacity and copies of their report are available.
Application
Applications include factories, engine houses, warehouses, agricultural sheds, sports centres, squash courts, electrical substations, hotels, schools, club houses, halls, shops, flats and homes. A standard-size Whirlybird is required for 50 m 2, but factors such as excessives fumes and moisture, heat sources and solar heat gain must be taken in consideration.
